YHWH Steward (pronounced Yahweh’s Steward)
is a Newcastle born, Johannesburg based born-again worshiper, church worker and youth teacher who ministers through music. The name YHWH
Steward means “God’s agent/servant”. YHWH Steward drew his stage
name from his middle name “Paul-Angelo”
which can be directly translated to “the obedient messenger (Paulos Angelos)”. Part
of the growing genre of Gospel Rap in Africa, YHWH Steward raps in English, Zulu and Tsonga to extend the good news of salvation through Christ.
With the simple intention of
spreading the gospel to youth and young adults, YHWH Steward recorded a single titled WATCH in the last quarter of 2013. The song addressed the need for youngstas to "watch" the media they consume as it had impact towards influencing their inner-man and consequently their righteous walk with Christ.
2014 saw YHWH Steward collaborating with multi-award winning Gospel Rapper MAWAT towards a single titled AMAGUGU. The song interrogated the subject of love of money and worldly treasures by Christians as well as temptations around dumbing down the gospel. AMAGUGU was later released by MAWAT on his 2014 ep No Other Way Rebirth which is available on iTunes and Google Play.

Making YHWH Steward’s sound distinct are his musical
influences which range from the Nigerian Christian rapper S.O; American and
Grammy award winning rapper Lacrea; the SA based opera outfit The Gugulethu
tenors; as well the Grammy award winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo. It’s due to
these influences that he fuses an African gospel choir in most of his records. This fusion produces a contemporary sound with
Africanisms and universal appeal.
YHWH Steward appears on stage with a live band
(drummer, keyboardist and bassist); a DJ; and a gospel choir. His performances
are spiritual, evangelistic, energetic and interactive allowing crowds to sing
